New year, new approach
OK, no more trying to do comprehensive stuff here every week. This time, just a little nugget, a quick summary each Tuesday. If anything, this blog will be for posterity. Team logos. A list of what teams are in each season. Stuff like that. Would be fun if everyone contributed some stuff here. But this is mainly for entertainment and info.
Play ball. Or something like that.
The draft was this past Sunday and I give myself a C+. Wasn't really prepared, didn't "practice" drafting. I'll be ready next time (Katoosh League draft is coming up in two days.
Here's the 2008 league of gentlemen.

Far as I can see, almost everyone is a returnee from last year, or even the past few years. That means this is going to be tough!

Week 1 Review
I'm not gonna say that one regular-season game doesn't mean much even though in one of the HRC leagues last year, an 8-6 team upset a 14-0 team in the championship game for the title.
No. But I know the sting of a loss, even in fantasy football land. Here's a look back at Week 1.
Clint 164.74, RaiderDave 131.03
Monster games by Randy Moss (36 points), Peyton Manning (32) and Reggie Wayne (28) powered Clint's squad. Wayne probably had the easiest two TDs of his career against the overmanned Saints, who went to single safety coverage for no apparent reason. RaiderDave got only one 20-point individual effort (Joseph Addai's 24), but his Pittsburgh defense was insane with 31 points. RaiderDave will have to maneuver the waiver wire due to Brandon Jacobs' strained knee injury.
bread_crumbs 148.08, The Executioners 142.25
The closest battle of the weekend came down to the tight ends. Antonio Gates started slowly last season, but gave the crumbies a 26-point boost in the season opener. The Executioners got just 8.2 poinots from their TE, Dallas Clark. Chad Johnson (20.70), Travis Henry (22.30) and Gates were 20-point scorers for the crumbies. The Executioners got 23.70 points from Terrell Owens and 21.90 from Javon Walker, but the dropoff was steep after them. Larry Johnson (15.70) and Donovan McNabb (10.51) will have better weeks.
Imua2000 193.29, That Team 135.56
Talk about Imua (power), Jon Kitna (30 points), Steve Smith (26), LT (27) and Minnesota's defense (37) were stupendous. Minnesota's defense rocked. How the hell? Those robust numbers overcame meek efforts by Lee Evans (2.5), Santana Moss (5.8) and Randy McMichael (4.4). That Team got good games from Carson Palmer (21) and Torry Holt (21), but Mark Clayton gave a goose egg. Whether it's McNair or Boller hoisting the pigskin, Clayton might be in for a lonely season.
Sunnyvale Strikers 171.30, Kahala Killahs 111.42
Tony Romo was huge, huge, huge with 46 points to carry the Strikers. Jason Witten is proving his owners right (24 points). T.J. Houshmandzadeh (20) and Brian Westbrook (19) were their reliable selves in spite of erratic quarterbacks. The Strikers overcame a goose egg by Deion Branch. The Killahs will need more from Vince Young (9) and Steven Jackson (1.10). Even Nick Kaeding was limited to a single point after missing a field-goal try, which equals minus points from close and mid-range. Plaxico Burress' 41-point performance was for naught.
Ala Wai U-Drive Boat 172.04, Team Parkpill 141.06
Despite a meager 2.40 effort by Vernon Davis, the Boat prevailed. Tom Brady was big (35 points) but the NFL's decision to fine and penalize the Patriots via draft pick(s) is huge. Had the Pats forfeited their win over the Jets, Brady owners across planet earth would have been howling the blues. Adrian Peterson was also big. The rookie amassed 25 points in his debut against a slow Falcons defense. Andre Johnson (25.20) and Laveraneus Coles (24.90) were brilliant for Team Parkpill, but Larry Fitzgerald (5) and Reggie Bush (8.58) struggled.
Long season, long way to go.

NBC promo keeling me
I passed on Reggie Bush.
That's right, even with the nice point considerations for catchers of aerial, spiraling pigskins, I let Bush slide by. I took the "sure" thing, Shaun Alexander. I can't even remember the last time I took a prime RB in the first round before. Sure, what I had was a measley seventh-round pick. But I was completely convinced that I needed a back who will get carries.
Such a chicken.
Not only do I regret not taking Bush, but I completely disregarded a Top 3 (normally) guy, Peyton Manning. I was so absorbed with getting a prime quality RB — they're harder to find than any other position — that Manning never entered the equation. So what does NBC do? NBC torments me with the constant commercials of Bush and Manning to hype up today's game between the Saints and Colts.
Like a masochist, I will indulge. I'll watch the first quarter, go pick up my nephew from school, and then watch some more. I'll even DVR the game. I love good football, and though Bush and Manning aren't on my team (or any of my three teams), I can barely wait for some good NFL action.
Anyone wanna trade?

LJ due for a down year?
Andy Behrens of Yahoo laments his decision — going against the tide of logic — about trading up to select Larry Johnson with the third pick of his draft.
Well, he sorta laments it. Even if LJ has the predicted dropoff from last year's 416-carry season, it still comes up roses. Red Kansas City Chief roses.

Update: HRC Aloha draft this Saturday
The HRC Ohana League was short on teams with only six, so we're merging the Ohana with the HRC Aloha League. That should give us a healthy number of teams. Draft is this Saturday, noon.
Also, the Katoosh League is still open for fantasy owners who want offense and defense, and I mean individual players. Lotsa fun! Draft is on Sunday afternoon.
E-mail me at hrcfantasyleague@aol.com to join in.

Aloha Everybody!
Welcome back to the HondaReport.com Fantasy Football Leagues. I hope you find this nice little space convenient and useful for your enjoyment as a member of an HRC League.
Can't remember my username and password from last year's leagues. So much for building on last year's win-loss records from the six leagues I was in. I registered three leagues with a new username for the upcoming season.
What's important is for you guys to congregate here and tell me which league you would like to play in. Various factors may influence your choice. One might be your desire to defend your title, or to destroy all your friends in friendly competition (again). Or both.
The leagues will be:

Contact me at hrcfantasyleague@aol.com for the league password of your choice(s).
Ideally, there will be 8 to 12 teams in each league. We can talk about a cutoff number. One of the three leagues will incorporate Offense and Defense. That experimental league we had last season was quite fun even though I felt like I was running blind during the draft. (Yeah, I'm the guy who drafted Ray Lewis with the No. 1 pick.)
Draft dates and times:
HRC Ohana, Saturday, Aug. 25, 11:45 a.m.
HRC Aloha, Saturday, Sept. 1, Noon
HRC Katoosh, Sunday, Sept. 2, 10:45 a.m.
